Harry Redout
Drowned at Sea; Body never recovered
12 February 1902

Murchison Advocate Headline, Saturday 15 February 1902

The fishing boat, Mayflower, capsized during a squall in Deep Passage, Safety Bay, near Rockingham.

A German man, named Harry Redout, was drowned, but another man of unknown name was rescued. The body was not recovered.

The incident was reported to the water police by an Austrian (Croatian) fisherman, named Katnic (reported as Catwick).

It is likely that this man was Josip Katnic, among the first professional fishermen in Western Australia having arrived on a fishing boat across the Great Australian Bight from Melbourne to Fremantle around 1890.
